About Grayscale converter
The grayscale converter removes color from your images, turning them into black and white shades of gray. The conversion is applied as soon as the image loads, so you see the result immediately and can download it with one click.
It works well for printing on black and white printers, giving a set of photos a consistent monochrome look, or checking how a design reads without color. Convert up to 20 images at once; transparent areas in PNG and WebP stay transparent. Everything happens in your browser with no upload.

Frequently asked questions
How is the color converted to gray?
Each pixel is converted using a standard luminance formula that weights red, green and blue by how bright they appear to the eye. Bright colors become light gray and dark colors become dark gray, so the picture keeps its tonal structure.
Can I adjust contrast while converting to black and white?
This tool focuses on the conversion itself. For control over brightness and contrast, use the brightness and contrast tool, tick Grayscale there and adjust the sliders at the same time.
Does a grayscale image have a smaller file size?
Sometimes slightly, but not by much. The image is still saved as a standard color file whose pixels happen to be gray. To reduce the size noticeably, use the image compressor or resizer.
Is the conversion reversible?
No. Once color information is removed it cannot be recovered from the gray image. Your original file is never modified, though, so keep it if you may need the color version later.
