About Image blur
The image blur tool softens a picture by any amount from 0 to 30 pixels. Drag the Blur slider and the preview shows the effect immediately, from a gentle softening to a strong blur where shapes become indistinct.
It is useful for creating soft background images behind text, giving a dreamy look to photos or making a picture less detailed before sharing. The blur is applied to the whole image. Brightness, contrast and grayscale controls are in the same panel, and up to 20 images can be processed locally at once.
How to use Image blur
- Drop images onto the upload box, click Choose image, or paste from the clipboard.
- Drag the Blur slider to set the amount, from 0 to 30 pixels.
- Optionally adjust brightness, contrast or grayscale for a background-ready look.
- Click Download, or Download ZIP for a batch.
Features
- Adjustable Gaussian-style blur from 0 to 30 pixels.
- Brightness, contrast and grayscale options in the same panel.
- Live before-and-after preview.
- Batch blurring of up to 20 images with the same setting.
- Keeps JPG, PNG and WebP in their format; other formats are saved as PNG.
Common uses
- Making a soft background image for a website hero section or slide with text on top.
- Creating a blurred placeholder or teaser version of a picture.
- Softening a busy photo so it does not distract from overlaid content.
- Producing an out-of-focus look for design mockups.
Tips
- The blur amount is measured in pixels, so the same setting looks weaker on a large photo. Resize big images first for a stronger effect.
- Lower the brightness slightly to make white text on a blurred background easier to read.
Frequently asked questions
Can I blur only part of an image, such as a face or a license plate?
No. This tool blurs the entire image evenly. To hide a specific area, crop it out with the image cropper or use an editor with a selection or pixelate tool.
Why does the blur look weak on my photo?
The blur radius is set in pixels. A 30-pixel blur is strong on a 1000-pixel image but subtle on a 6000-pixel camera photo. Reduce the image size with the resizer first, then blur it.
Is a blurred image safe for hiding sensitive information?
Do not rely on light blurring to hide text or numbers, since it can sometimes be partly reversed or still read. For sensitive details, crop them out completely instead.
Does blurring make the file smaller?
Often, yes. Blurred images have less fine detail, which JPG and WebP compress more efficiently. The size change is shown as a percentage below the preview.
