About PDF page preview

PDF page preview opens a PDF and lays out all of its pages as a grid of thumbnails, with the file name, page count and file size shown at the top. It is a quick way to see what a document contains without scrolling through it page by page.

Use it to check that a scan captured every page, spot pages that are sideways or blank, or confirm you have the right file before you send, print or merge it. Pages are rendered locally with PDF.js, the engine behind the Firefox PDF viewer, and the file never leaves your device.

How to use PDF page preview

  1. Drop a PDF onto the page or select Choose PDF.
  2. Scroll through the thumbnail grid; each tile shows its page number.
  3. In long documents, select Show more pages to load the next 48 thumbnails.
  4. Select a thumbnail to highlight it and show its page number in the header.

  • Renders every page as a thumbnail labeled with its page number.

  • Sharp thumbnails on high-density screens.

  • Read-only: it never changes or re-saves your file.

Frequently asked questions

Can I preview a password-protected PDF?

Yes, if you know the password. Type it in the PDF password field and select Open PDF. The pages are decrypted in your browser for display only, and the original file is not changed.

Does previewing a PDF change the file?

No. The preview only reads the document to draw the thumbnails. There is no Apply step and nothing is saved, so your file stays exactly as it was.

Can I zoom into a page?

The thumbnails are designed for an overview rather than reading. To read a page in detail, open the PDF in your browser's built-in viewer, or export the page at high resolution with PDF to images.

Why are some thumbnails still loading?

Thumbnails are rendered only when they scroll near the screen, which keeps long documents responsive. Pages with large images or complex drawings take longer to render, especially on phones and older computers.
