About Sentence counter

The sentence counter estimates sentence boundaries from common punctuation and line breaks. It is a quick way to inspect the shape of an essay, article or script alongside the word and character totals.

This is a practical text heuristic, not a grammar parser. Periods in abbreviations, initials, decimals and unusual punctuation can change the estimate. Use it for a quick overview and read the actual sentences when an exact editorial count matters.

How to use Sentence counter

  1. Paste a draft or open a text file.
  2. Read Sentences at the start of the statistics grid.
  3. Check Words and Paragraphs alongside the sentence total.
  4. Revise the input and inspect the updated totals, or use Reset to start again.

Features

  • Detects runs of text ending in a period, exclamation mark or question mark.
  • Treats line breaks as boundaries when identifying sentence-like text.
  • Shows sentence count together with words, characters, paragraphs and lines.
  • Runs on the page without an account or document upload.

Common uses

  • Spotting a draft with many very short sentence-like passages.
  • Checking the structure of exercise material or classroom examples.
  • Comparing two versions of an article before editing the final wording.

Tips

  • Use the total as an editing aid, and verify exceptional punctuation manually when the precise count is important.

Frequently asked questions

Is the sentence count grammatically exact?

No. The tool applies a punctuation-based heuristic. It does not understand abbreviations, quoted dialogue or every language’s sentence conventions.

Why does an abbreviation change the count?

A period can mark both an abbreviation and a sentence ending. This counter does not use a language-specific abbreviation dictionary, so a sequence such as “Dr.” can affect the result.

Are paragraphs and sentences the same?

No. Paragraphs are groups separated by a blank line. A paragraph may contain one sentence, several sentences or a heading without a full sentence.

Is my text uploaded or saved?

The tool processes the text in this page, on your device. It does not send the input to a conversion service or save it to an account. Advertising and ordinary website requests are separate from this local text processing. Copy or download any result you want to keep before leaving the tool.
