About URL QR code

The URL QR code generator turns a web address into a code that opens the page in the phone’s browser when scanned. Paste the full link, including https://, and the preview appears instantly with exactly that link encoded inside.

Because the link is stored directly in the code, there is no short-link service in between that could expire, show ads or record who scanned. Use it for websites, online menus, product pages, review forms, videos and app store listings.

How to use URL QR code

  1. Paste the full web address, starting with https:// or http://, into the URL field.
  2. Check the preview; an error appears if the link is incomplete or uses another scheme.
  3. Adjust the colors or error correction if needed.
  4. Download the code as a PNG at 512, 1024 or 2048 px, or as an SVG.

Features

  • Accepts http:// and https:// links and flags incomplete addresses before you print.
  • Encodes the link exactly as entered, including paths, query strings and UTM parameters.
  • No redirect or link shortener, so the code works as long as the page does.
  • Color, error correction and size options, with PNG and SVG downloads.

Common uses

  • Linking a restaurant table card to an online menu.
  • Sending shoppers from packaging or a shelf label to a product page.
  • Adding a link to a printed flyer, poster, résumé or slide.
  • Pointing customers to a review or feedback form after a visit.

Tips

  • Add UTM parameters to the link if you want your analytics to show visits that came from the printed code.
  • Shorter links give simpler codes. Drop parameters you do not need when the code must scan from a distance.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I get an error asking for https://?

The tool needs a complete web address so phones recognize it as a link. Type the scheme at the start, for example https://example.com rather than example.com. Only http:// and https:// links are accepted in the URL tab; use the Text tab for anything else.

Can I change where the QR code points after printing?

No. The link is stored in the code itself, so a new destination means a new code. If you expect the target to change, link to a page on your own site and update that page or set a redirect there instead.

Will a long URL still scan?

Yes, within limits, but longer links make denser codes with smaller modules, which are harder to read from far away or when printed small. Removing unneeded parameters or using a shorter path on your own domain gives a cleaner code.

Does the code show ads or a landing page before opening my site?

No. Scanning hands the exact link to the phone, which opens it directly. There is no intermediate page, account or redirect, and the code does not depend on this website staying online.

How can I count scans of a URL QR code?

Add UTM parameters, such as ?utm_source=flyer, to the link before you generate the code. Your website analytics then report visits that came from it. The QR code itself cannot count scans because it holds only the link.
